EASY - Easy Herb Co LLC

Magic in the mix! Each one of these remarkable botanicals has its own special qualities that we love it for, but the real magic comes from when these plants work together in concert, in a formula like Easy. Traditionally, herbs like these have been used together rather than on their own. A great example of this is the traditional formula Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan, which is made using five of the same herbs we use in Easy Cycle Support (Cassia twig, Peony root, Peach seed, Tree Peony root bark, and Poria sclerotium).

Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan has a long history of use in clinical practice in Asia, and modern research has shown that this formula has potent activity to reduce uterine contractions in dysmenorrhea, inhibiting contractions and pain though spasmolytic and COX2 (inflammatory pathway) inhibiting properties. In this randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial that tested Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan for treatment of primary dysmenorrhea, the Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan treatment group showed significant reduction in severity of menstrual pain, as indicated by Visual Analogue Scale and Cox Menstrual Symptoms scale.

Bai-Zhu Atractylodes

Bai-zhu Atractylodes, Atractylodes macrocephala, is an important botanical for supporting fluid metabolism, bowel motility, and healthy blood sugar metabolism. Atractylodes macrocephela has been used in clinical practice in Asia for treating polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and modern animal studies have shown that extracts of Atractylodes can reduce hyperandrogenism in PCOS and relieve insulin resistance.

Cassia

Cassia twig is a warming, aromatic botanical that helps alleviate menstrual cramps, improves blood circulation and supports healthy blood sugar levels.  Commonly known as cinnamon or Cinnamomum cassia, Cassia has been shown to significantly reduce painful cramping in primary dysmenorrhea.

Corydalis

Corydalis yanhuso root has been used for centuries to improve blood circulation and relieve pain. Modern pharmacological research has validated the analgesic, anti-nociceptive, and antispasmodic properties of Corydalis yanhusuo root.

Cyperus

Cyperus rhizome, derived from Cyperus rotundus, is an important botanical with analgesic and antispasmodic properties. Traditionally it has been used for abdominal pain, emotional stress and constraint, nausea, and vomiting. The 16th century physician Li Shi Zhen described Cyperus rhizome saying, “it is an immortal herb for women!” So how could we not use Cyperus!  Modern research has validated this potent botanical’s antispasmodic, analgesic, and anti-emetic properties. Also notable, it’s one of the most important herbs for reducing PMS symptoms such as mood swings, irritability, and breast tenderness.

Dong Quai

Dong Quai root, Angelica sinensis, is one of the most famous botanicals for supporting hormone balance and regular menstrual cycles. Modern research has demonstrated analgesic and muscle-relaxant effects. Ligustilide, one of the active compounds in Dong Quai root, has been shown to reduce the force of uterine contractions in menstrual cramps, and has shown anti-inflammatory effects.

Ginger

Ginger rhizome, Zingiber officinale, is a warming spice included in our formula to support regular menstruation, healthy digestion, and fluid metabolism. In this randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial, Zingiber officinale was shown to significantly reduce blood loss in women with heavy menstrual bleeding.

Peach seed

Peach seed, from Prunus persica, has a long history of use for addressing menstrual pain and abdominal pain. Peach seed invigorates blood circulation in the abdomen to support regular menstrual cycles. Modern research suggests that Prunis persica seed may have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immune regulatory effects.

Poria

Poria sclerotium, from Poria cocos, is included in our formula for its properties of improving digestion and fluid metabolism. Traditionally this herb has been used for fluid retention, edema, bloating and abdominal distension. It is paired with Cassia twig to enhance its digestion and metabolism stimulating properties. Poria scleriotium is paired with Bai-zhu Atractylodes to support normal digestion and reduce diarrhea and constipation related to the menstrual cycle. Modern research on Poria cocos suggests that it may help regulate blood sugar levels,  insulin secretion, and regulate intestinal flora.

Red Peony

Red Peony root, Paeonia lactiflora, has been used for thousands of years to relieve menstrual cramps, painful periods, and to relax muscle tension. Modern research has demonstrated the potent antispasmodic, analgesic, as well as anti-inflammatory properties of paeoniflorin - one of the main active ingredients in Red Peony root. Historically, it has been used widely for painful menses, irregular menses, and abdominal pain - especially for cramping pain which manifests as dull, aching, or sharp, stabbing pain.

Red Sage

Red Sage root, Saliva miltiorrhiza, is an amazing herb for supporting cardiovascular health, and in this formula it works together with its other botanical friends to help reduce pain by improving blood circulation in the lower abdomen and reproductive organs to support healthy cell turnover and reduce inflammation. Additionally, it’s a potent anti-stress herb.

Modern research studies have identified Salvia miltiorhizza as a key medicinal herb for the treatment of gynecological diseases, including pain and menstrual disorders. Current research suggests that Red Sage root has beneficial effects on reproductive function, glucose and lipid metabolism in patients with PCOS.

Sichuan lovage

Sichuan lovage rhizome, Ligusticum wallichii, has a long history of traditional use for dysmenorrhea, abdominal pain, and headaches. This herb’s dual action accounts for some of the feedback we hear from customers who report reduction in headaches around their period. Modern biochemical analysis has shown that several of the active ingredients in Ligusticum chuanxiong reduce uterine smooth muscle contraction.

Tree Peony

Tree Peony root bark comes from Paeonia suffruticosa, also known as Moutan Peony. Tree Peony root bark enhances the effects of Red Peony root, and they have been traditionally used in combination for supporting regular menstrual periods. Tree Peony is an important ingredient in many traditional formulations for addressing hormonal acne. Modern research into the pharmacological effects of Tree Peony root bark extracts suggest that it may have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and neuroprotective properties.
